Alert!
Most people have a tendency to buy a gaming laptop even if they don’t do gaming or video editing because they expect better performance from their laptop. It is actually a wrong practice because a non-gaming laptop aka a thin and light laptop is actually more than enough powerful to handle all the daily tasks a normal user has. So if one person who needs a thin and light laptop buys a gaming laptop they are sacrificing a better display, build quality, battery backup, etc for a powerful processor and dedicated graphics card they don’t even use once.
So fix your category of laptop conscientiously. For a detailed and complete buying guide please visit this.
Best Laptops in India April 2023
The thin and light laptop comes with good battery backup, build quality, and a better display with a comparatively less powerful processor for the price range. This laptop is best suitable for daily uses like web browsing, document editing, watching videos, etc. There will be no dedicated graphics card for such laptops. People who don’t do gaming, heavy video editing, and rendering can go for this category of laptop.
What should you consider while buying a Gaming Laptop?
Hardware has a big role in deciding your experience with the laptop, and hence here we include a short version of a guide to help you choose the specifications of your laptop. if you want an elaborate and detailed one, check out the hardware guide
Processor
The processor is a vital part of a laptop despite the category. If we don’t buy a powerful processor then we might not be able to process our tasks smoothly in time. So choose it wisely. While selecting the processor there is a plethora of options.
For a long time, the Mobile processor market was stable, with only minor improvements across generations. But the Ryzen 4000 series changed the scene, and now even mid-range thin and light laptops have 6 or 8 cores, and excellent performance, all in a 15W configuration. the Ryzen 5000 series brought multi-thread to notebooks, and now Intel is taking it to the next level with its 12th gen notebook processors having more performance than last-gen Gaming laptops, along with a promised improvement in battery efficiency.
The Ryzen 6000 series comes with RDNA2 graphics which gives similar performance to 1650, which is a 50W TDP graphics card from 2020 and is still on sale now in many laptops below 70K. So if you are more inclined towards gaming, then the AMD laptops might deliver very good graphics in a thin and light body. So select your processor according to your use case. if you want gaming performance, then choose AMD 6th Gen processors, or else the Intel 12th Gen processors.
Intel’s new 12th-gen processors are much faster and support newer technologies compared to previous-gen Intel/ AMD processors. for example. the i5 1140P, a 28w CPU from Intel found in many of the laptops in this list can outperform a Ryzen 5 5600H or i5 11400H gaming processor while using about half the power. The processors have power and efficiency cores, with power cores handling the heavy jobs, while efficiency cores concentrate on background jobs and other such tasks.
2. Display
The next major factor when deciding on your laptop is the display. As long as the display and body are not good enough, a good processor won’t matter. As we interact with the display and body of the laptop of all types, Cheap or sub-par build quality can substantially decrease the user experience, and hence make the laptop not easy to recommend.
Displays have evolved a lot during the past year. 1080P 45% NTSC ( not very color accurate ) panels have been the standard for around 4 years now, and this year, we have many options with 2K/3K or even 4K displays with up to 100% sRGB coverage, which is more than enough for almost any non-professional user or content creator, even in laptops that are as cheap as 45K, which is a welcoming change. But the higher quality display often comes with a higher price tag / lower specs than other laptops in the segment, and hence make sure to choose the type that suits you the most.
If the prime need of your laptop is for watching videos and if you are ready to compromise a bit of battery backup then you can go for 2k displays and can get to the next level of visual experience. Otherwise, if you need to do heavy stuff like mild gaming, video editing, etc then go for a 1080p display which will reflect in higher processor performance.
3. Body
As with the displays, The quality has improved considerably in terms of design, durability, and materials used. Now, we can get an ultra-thin laptop with a metal body for as low as 55K, and OEMs have started prioritizing build quality after the Mi Book Ultra brought metal builds with MacBook-like features. This year, we expect more laptops to provide these features and expect manufacturers to combine these laptops with a good display and high-performance processors.
Not everyone needs a powerful laptop, Sometimes a laptop with a very good build quality and display might be better than a very powerful laptop for most people, so consider how good the build quality is, before buying the Laptop.
4. I/O, upgradability
Even though upgradability or the selection of I/O ports are not the prominent features of thin and light laptops, you might need to consider them when you buy a laptop, as they are basic and necessary features. In the I/O section, At least a type-C/ Thunderbolt port and two USB-B ports are important ( the more the number of ports, the better the I/O is). additionally, you may need a full-sized HDMI port and an ethernet to Lan port. If you need to transfer files frequently to and from the laptop, the addition of a Fast card reader will also be a welcome feature.
In the case of upgradability, the upgradability of newer laptops is reducing day by day, mainly due to our expectations that have resulted in laptops becoming more and thinner, along with the fact that every manufacturer from Apple to Lenovo wants you to buy a higher-end model with more RAM and Storage for a much higher price. check if the laptop has an upgradeable SSD, as it is still common in many laptops, and also check if there are multiple RAM Slots, or if the RAM is soldered to the RAM Slot.

What should you consider while buying a Gaming Laptop?
Hardware has a big role in deciding your experience with the laptop, and hence here we include a short version of a guide to help you choose the specifications of your laptop. if you want an elaborate and detailed one, check out the hardware guide
Processor
The processor is the most important part of a gaming laptop along with its graphics card, as it is the part that decides how fast or slow your laptop is in the real world. whether it be in games/ content creation or 3D modeling, A faster processor will always prove to be better in speed, efficiency, and longevity. Now, we cannot call a processor ‘the best processor’, as they vary considerably in cost and performance. But as we are experiencing exponential growth in the performance of processors, buying at least the Ryzen 5th gen or i5 11400H and higher is better ( Keep an eye out for i5 11300H and i7 11600H, they are garbage for their respective prices.)
You should go with a Ryzen 5 5600H or i5 11400H for under 75K, and with the Ryzen 7 5800H or i5 12500H ( MUCH better than even Ryzen 7 5800H), if it is in stock, which it sadly isn’t for any laptop above 75K. now to choose between them, choose the Ryzen processor if your use involves lots of multithreading, like video editing or 3d rendering, and the Intel i5 11400H or i7 11800H if you use your laptop primarily for gaming.
Graphics card
On the surface, there are only three options for your graphics card, and choosing between them seems easy, considering the large price difference. but there is more than that, to look out for when choosing a GPU. Keep a close eye on the TGP of the GPU, which will decide if your GPU is good or not. for example, the 45 W RTX 3050 in MSI gf63 thin performs worse than a 50W GTX 1650 from the Legion, while the RTX 3050 in an 85W VIctus gives about 40% more performance than the Legion.
Display
All the laptops in the List except the RTX 3060 Victus have an FHD display, and the RTX 3060 version has a QHD 165hz display with much better response time and color accuracy. choosing between the display is actually very easy, the best display is from the Victus RTX 3060 version, followed by Victus RTX 3050 version, both having better color accuracy and the former having DCI-p3 100% coverage and 500nits peak brightness.
If you are a content creator/ 3D designer, go with these laptops as they will perform better when color grading your content/ representing the colors better. the other displays in most gaming laptops are the same, they are 63% sRGB FHD panels with either 120 or 144hz refresh rates and are good for gaming.
Build quality and ports
We cannot expect much from a gaming laptop in terms of a budget gaming laptop, but there are laptops that stand out from the crowd with better build quality/parts, and ports. for example, every Victus in the list has a much better and rich speaker system than all other gaming laptops, while the IdeaPad and Legion have superior keyboards. it is up to you to find which one you want to go for.
