Choosing a gaming laptop might be hard, especially if you are not a tech nerd, so we have compiled a list of hardware specs to check when buying a laptop, along with a comparison of the most common specs used.

Graphics card.

The cheapest card we include is the GTX 1650 (GDDR6) since 3GB VRAM on 1050 is simply not enough now. RTX 1050, GTX 16050 Max-Q, or GTX 1650(ddr5) all come in the 50-60k range. The latest 1650 has a gddr6 memory, the older one has gddr5, and the max q version in MSI is a toned-down brother of regular 1650, and hence has less performance. 1650(gddr6)>1650(gddr5)>1650(max-Q) >1050.they have around 10 percent and 15 percent performance difference respectively. So, check the specifications as 1650 can have 3 levels of performance.

RTX 3050 is a big upgrade over the existing 1650 series, as it supports RTX, and performs significantly better than 1650.it offers around 50 percent more performance, so if you have the budget, you should choose a 3050 laptop.

RTX 3060 comes with 6GB VRAM and a 110 percent performance increase than 1650, and also removes the VRAM limitation of the 3050(In a lot of games, the only thing stopping you from cranking up all the visual effects to its max is going to be the VRAM on the 3050.

Processor:

Ryzen 4^th was a Massive upgrade on their previous-gen processors and showed a monumental leap in performance leap in both paper and the real world.  Due to the 7nm Zen 2 architecture, the budget offering, Ryzen 5 4600h had better performance than high-end i7/i9 powered laptops. Laptops with more than four cores were unheard of in the budget range, and six-core Laps cost around 2 lack. long story short, Ryzen 4^th gen is a game-changer. That is why there is no Ryzen 3^rd gen or intel 10^th gen. I5 11^th gen is included as sometimes people need to have thunderbolt support.

5^th gen Ryzen comes with a marginal improvement over its predecessors but does have its advantages. It is better in every way, but slightly ever so that it won’t be a reason to sacrifice other features for. If you are into content creation, choose the 8 core Ryzen 7 CPUs, as they provide a good margin in performance for Highly parallel tasks.

Display:

While displays with 4K panels or 100% DCI-P33 coverage would be nice to see, being realistic, there is no way we get those features in budget laptops, as OEMs usually save cost on displays. Most, laptops have a 1080p panel with 45% coverage of the NTSC colour gamut. But being honest, 4k doesn’t bring about a drastic change like when we moved on from 720p to 1080p, nor does having a full SRGB covering panel appear significantly better. but a high refresh rate panel does give a significantly better gaming experience, so it is a must to have if you plan on gaming in these ‘gaming laptops.

So if you plan on content creation and have a good budget, go for a colour accurate panel, else if you would play esports, choose high refresh rate panels.

2K/4K panels only come in the premium segment, and you would make a bad decision by choosing either.

Ports And Build Quality

Having ample ports would make life much easier when we have to use a large number of devices and accessories, and gaming laptops often come with enough ports. generally, you would need at least three USB type B ports, 1 type C, a full-size HDMI and an ethernet port. an SD card reader would be also nice to have, especially when we have a lot of videos and files from cameras for editing.

Build quality is generally good and not great in Gaming laptops, But one thing to keep in mind is its heat dissipation capacity. when we have a processor and graphics card constantly ejecting heat, having good cooling is important. make sure to check multiple youtube videos on the laptops shortlisted, and buy the best one.
