Since the last time I made a list of best laptops, back in September 2024, a lot of new laptops, and 2 new generations of laptops have entered the market, as well as the new 50 series GPU from NVidia, although it will take quite some time, as well as the improvements year over year is quite modest.

laptops

Which kind of laptop is right for you?

So the first major category is gaming laptops. So if your need for a laptop is for gaming, video editing and rendering, for creating 3D models or any graphically intensive purposes then you fall into this category. Gaming laptops come with a dedicated graphics card which will accelerate your job.

Pros: Gaming laptops come with the most powerful processor in their budget range with a dedicated graphics card ensuring the best performance across the board. Moreover, they will provide the highest number of I/O ports and the longest upgrade cycle, with removable slots for multiple SSDs, RAMs, etc.

Cons: Like every coin has two sides, this performance doesn’t come for free. Those who want to have this ultimate performance will have to cope with the higher footprint, lower quality builds, including a plastic body on laptops costing even above 90K, and less battery backup than thin and light laptops.

On the other hand, if you want a laptop for media consumption, document editing, web browsing, etc., then you likely fall into this category. They are still powerful enough to do all the day-to-day tasks, sometimes even faster than a gaming laptop of the same budget, depending on the task.

Pros: Thin and light laptops are the ones that get the most attention from manufacturers, they are often the laptops that are built with the best materials, the best displays, battery backup, and especially the build quality. they are often made with metal parts that are light right and thin.

Cons: Many laptops cost much more than what they are providing, especially in the lower-end price ranges of 40-70k. and sometimes even come with the same body as a laptop that is available for as low as 25K. Apart from these two categories, there are additional types of laptops, such as convertible/touch laptops and budget laptops.

thanks to the diverse nature of the market, and multiple major players fighting for different userbases, you have the option to get something that is in between, or even out of the two major categories. for example, if you want a laptop that can properly game, but still be comparably light and have a great display, laptops like the Zephyrus and HP transcend are a good pick. if what you want is a 2 in 1, you can go for Lenovo flex / envy etc.

pros: You get a more tailormade experience, for your special needs, maybe a laptop below 1kg? maybe a small laptop with external GPU? fully modular and upgradable? 13 inch laptop that is full display, and becomes 18 inch once you unfold it? you ask it, there is a good chance you get it.

cons: due to the inherently low demand for these laptops that don’t fit a specific Mould, and need for more costly parts, most of these laptops are generally more costly than a normal laptop with similar specs.

Processor Updates:

if you have not been paying attention for the past few months, intel is finally back on their feat with ultra 2 series of processors, after failing to deliver with 12th gen as well as ultra 1 series. so we finally have laptops that can compete or even be better in both efficiency, performance and igpu performance from intel. processors such as the 256v and 225H have already started appearing in laptops under 80k, providing great value.

after failing to bring any significant jumps in performance since 5000 series, AMD also brought some great processors this year, although with the wierdest naming schemes possible. processors like the HX 365/370 provide great value for the price, and a new HX max 395+ processor that promises 128GB unified memory is in the horizon for an indian launch (it is still not proper unified memory such as that of apple, but better than normal laptops in terms of performance.)

even though the arm power x elite laptops failed to develop the same hype m1 gave macbooks, they have finally seeped into budget lapatops, and providing great value at 60k price ranges, if you dont face major compaitability issues. laptops such as the vivobook and swift go provide3 xplus varients for under 60k with great build quality and battery life.

M series processors are going great as always, the m4 series bringing good enough improvememts to the already impressive m3 series. but more importantly, 16GB is the new bare minimum, so you won’t have to shell out 30+ k just for a usable MAC. as always, they are still the clear leader in performce for a wide variety of tasks, and especially in efficiency. you can get m2/16GB for just 63, and m4/16 for 83, both of which are great value.

best budget laptops

Acer Aspire 3

Acer Aspire 3

Specifications

  • Intel Core i3 1215U
  • 8 GB/512 GB SSD
  • FHD 14″ IPS
  • 180 Hinge
  • The Acer aspire 3 with 12th gen i3 is our pick for an entry level laptop, which comes just under 27k. honestly, I would not reccomment going any lower, because N4500, N5000, ryzen 7320U etc are barely usable in 2025. the one major downgrade for this laptop is the fact that it doesnot have a backlit keyboard, but atleast it has an IPS panel, and modern looking design, which many of it’s competitors lack.

Acer Aspire Lite

Specifications

  • Ryzen 5-7430U
  • 16 GB/512 GB SSD
  • FHD 15.6″
  • 180 Hinge
  • If you go slightly up, you will get the same aspire 3, this time with 8GB more RAM, a more efficient 7430u processor, and most importantly, a backlit keyboard. for most regular users, this will be a good laptop, that covers all the basics, even though it doesn’t provide a lot of additional features.

Acer Aspire Go

aspire Go

Specifications

  • Core ultra 5 125H
  • 16GB DDR5 RAM | 512 SSD
  • metal build
  • 14 inch 16:10 display
  • this is certainly among the fastest laptops under 60k, and even better, it also comes with a powerful arc graphics card, that is around as faster than a 1050 laptop GPU form a few years ago. along with the great performance, the laptop also is built well, with a large trackpad and metal chasis.
  • if you are a power user on a budget, then this can be a great option for you.

Best thin and light laptops

MacBook Air M2

Specifications

  • Apple M2 chip
  • 13.3″
  • 16GB/256GB SSD
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • MacBook’s always had one of the best build quality in any laptops, along with top class touch pad, battery backup, etc. now that Apple finally started to price their base varient Airs aggresively, these are a great buy, if you want a Mac, or if you want great everyday laptop, but not particularly into gaming/niche software/ data hoarding.

Asus Vivobook 16

Vivobook

Specifications

  • Snapdragon X X1 26 100 Processor
  • FHD+ 16″ 60Hz 300 nits Display
  • 16GB RAM/512GB SSD
  • Backlit Keyboard
  • Qualcomm Adreno iGPU
  • Qualcomm entered laptop processor market last year with their X series last year, and even though the processors themselves are great, it had a fair share of compaitability issues. although most of it is sorted, it’s just not plug and play yet. but if you are just a casual user, then these laptops provide great battery backup, snappy web browsing and premium feel. so if you are mostly going to be living inside browser tabs and microsoft office, this might be a great option for you.

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5

specifications

  • AMD Ryzen 7 350
  • 24GB DDR5 RAM | 1TB SSD
  • 14 inch WFHD 400 nits OLED display
  • Metal body
  • The slim 5 is a premium laptop from Lenovo, with an excellent processor, display and value proposition, along with the latest processor, it also brings FHD camera, wifi 6e, bluetooth 5.4, IR face detection etc, and is build extremely well. no mattery what type of user you are, you will fall in love with the beautiful display and great build quality, that comes with a nice amount of punch as well.

Apple MacBook Air m4

specifications

  • Apple M4 processor
  • 16GB/256GB
  • 13.3-inch display
  • metal body, premium build quality
  • The M4 MacBook air follows the same basics as the cheaper m2 MacBook Air, in that it comes with premium build quality and best in class battery backup, but along with that, a more powerful M4 processor. although it can throttle at times because of the higher power usage of the M4, it certainly offers additional value. but in case 256GB is not enough for you, Apple basically robs you, costing as much as 50% extra, or the same cost as an m3 ipad for 8/256GB more RAM and Storage.

Best Gaming Laptops

Acer Nitro V

Best Laptop Offers

specifications

  • Ryzen 5 6600H
  • 6GB RTX 3050 65W GPU
  • 16GB | 512 GB
  • 15.6 inch 165hz 300nits sRGB 100% display
  • 2.1KG
  • A great entry level Gaming laptop, that will provide signifiantly more performance than RTX2050/4GB RTX 3050 laptops available in the segment. it is not as large as other gaming laptops, so it won’t be pushing the GPU to it’s full potential at 85w, such as the LOQ does, nor is as well built, but the 10k less pricetag as well as 6600H with an iGPU (7235hs is a 6600H without the iGPU), that will provide better battery backup, and less overall heat.

Lenovo LOQ

Best Laptop

specifications

  • Ryzen 7 7435HS
  • RTX 4060 105w
  • 24GB RAM | 512GB SSD
  • 15.6-inch FHD 144hz sRGB 100% display
  • The LOQ is among the best built budget gaming laptop, that looks way too similar to the premium legion 5 series. it also has one of the highest wattage GPU as well. but the ryzen 7 7435HS is both old, and lacks an iGPU. so unless you are mostly aiming for a desk setup, spend a little more to get the OMEN for 10k more. if battery backup is not a major issue for you, it provides 8GB VRAM and 4060 in a great budget.

HP Omen

specifications

  • Ryzen 7 7840HS
  • RTX 4060 95W
  • 16GB RAM | 1TB SSD
  • 16.1-inch 165hz 300 nits display
  • 2.3KG
  • the OMEN from HP is surprisingly one of the sensible RTX 4060 options in the current market, that is not too underpowered, while providing a premium feel overall. when comparing to the LOQ, this laptop provides a newer Zen 4 processor that is both faster and more power efficient, and also a larger 16:10 aspect ratio display. so, it will provide better battery backup and thermals when doing light tasks, which is a must if yo are not going to use the laptop just as a desktop replacement.
